MusicBox
To make MusicBox more accessible, we made the switch from Flash to HTML5.
MusicBox is an online library featuring a number of different genres of music and production audio. The service is utilized by a diverse spectrum of professionals in the entertainment industry- if you’ve heard a song you like in a movie or on TV, there’s a good chance the producers found it on Musicbox!
In 2004, Fuzz Productions designed and developed the first iteration of Musicbox, using Flash to power the user experience. In the years since, the state of media streaming on the web has changed dramatically, and in 2010, it was decided that the core platform underlying Musicbox was in need of renovation. Enter HTML5.
Introducing the all new MusicBox

Unlike HTML4, which was introduced almost 15 years ago, HTML5 has robust multimedia capabilities, meaning it can play audio and video without relying on Flash or 3rd party plugins. Fuzz used native HTML5 audio tag functionality to allow users to preview and license songs and audio samples. We used Javascript to create dynamic menus that were previously powered by Flash. This has the added benefit of making the site more SEO friendly.
The biggest benefit, however, has been the ability to reach new mobile platforms that do not support Flash. With the release of the new Musicbox, for the first time, users can access their audio library from the comfort of their iPad, iPhone, or Android device.
